Care and maintenance for the hull of your Menorquín

Mantenimiento obra viva Menorquín

Do you know the proper maintenance for your Menorquín’s hull?

Keeping your vessel in perfect condition through preventive and scheduled maintenance will prevent both the hull and its mechanical systems from suffering harmful consequences in the future.

You should bear in mind that repairs resulting from poor maintenance can be far more costly than the total cost of regular preventive maintenance. For this reason, we recommend carrying out routine maintenance on your Menorquín.

What is ?

paint, or anti-fouling coating, is a material that contains biocidal agents which, when in contact with seawater, dissolve gradually to prevent plant microorganisms and other marine organisms from adhering to the vessel’s hull.

There are different types of designed to act on various surfaces. You should select the product that best suits your vessel type, material, navigation profile, and geographical area. These materials are classified as pesticides, so their application must follow the manufacturer’s guidelines and must never be discharged into the sea.

Advantages of hull maintenance

Keeping the hull in optimal condition is essential, as it not only prevents fiberglass deterioration but also helps reduce fuel consumption and ensures proper sealing of the engine cooling water intakes. This results in a more efficient vessel.

Factors influencing the degree of fouling

Depending on your usual navigation area, the level of marine growth on the hull may vary. This process depends on factors such as tidal changes, water salinity, pollution, and temperature.

Signs that it is time to replace antifouling

Antifouling products gradually deteriorate while the vessel remains in the water. It is recommended to apply a new coat at least once a year. The best time is during the first and last months of the year, before the boating season begins.

What do we use at Sasga Yachts?

At Sasga Yachts, we use three different antifouling systems depending on the material to be protected: metals, plastics, or fiberglass. We recommend using the same products employed at the shipyard during construction to ensure proper maintenance of your Menorquín.
