Mr. Juan Sastre revolutionised the construction and design of the traditional Menorcan llaüt.
Last Thursday, November 17, Mr. Juan Sastre Bernat, founder of Menorquín Yachts and a key figure in Spanish nautical industry, passed away.
In the late 1970s, Juan Sastre created his first range of cruising boats inspired by the traditional llaüt of the island of Menorca. Years later, Menorquín Yachts was born — a bold proposal that carved out its place in an already established market. Thanks to its success, the shipyard began expanding within the nautical sector, eventually competing with major brands on the global market.
Juan Sastre not only founded Menorquín Yachts; he was also a visionary who brought the traditional Menorcan fishing llaüt to the forefront of the nautical market. This new interpretation of the traditional vessel, together with his dedication, effort and entrepreneurial vision, has ensured that his boats are recognised internationally — today under the Sasga Yachts brand.
